"It doesn't have to be fun, to be fun" - Mark Twight, American Alpinist
There's more than one type of fun. Type 1 fun is enjoyable while it's happening. Sometime's its a kickback, sometimes its more active, but good times are had. The other kind is a little different. It can be scary, intense, cold, and miserable while its happening and you may find yourself asking, "why am I even here?". However, afterwards you find yourself oddly looking forward to the next time. That's Type 2 fun. Ice climbing and alpine ascents often fall into this. You get up long before sunrise for the quintessential "alpine start". The goal is to get to the climb in darkness, before the sun can start it's work. Before you get there, you're faced with a nighttime approach, carrying your gear, and bundled against the cold. You finally arrive at the climb and now you must battle through the physical exertion, pain, and fear that comes with the sport. There are many hours of intense climbing ahead of you, before you can even think about your return. Eventually, you make your way back down the trail, tired after a days work, and hopefully with a sense of accomplishment. The life of a climber.
Featuring a fully embroidered 15,000 stitch artwork, we named this piece Climber on Ice.
